Club Mission Statement â€‹

The mission of Students for Life FUS is to lead Franciscan students in prayer, sacrifice, and witness for the recognition and protection of the right to life from conception to natural death; to educate students of pro-life issues, and to equip students to give a defense for the pro-life position, especially regarding abortion.

We stand under Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn.

Our club is organized into six committees.

Campus Outreach

The mission of the Campus Outreach committee is to lead the students on campus to be more actively involved in the prolife movement by organizing and advertising pro-life speakers, events, retreats, and fundraising events. We aim to encourage students to come to abortion clinic outreach, especially by word of mouth.

Community Outreach

We, as Community Outreach, strive to be a presence in the off-campus community of Steubenville and witness to life in solidarity by active involvement in the local parishes and pro-life organizations.

Political Initiative

We as Students for Life under the Political Initiative, plan to educate ourselves and core team in current political issues in order to inform ourselves and campus, then to provide substantial opportunities to become involved in the political process. We will do this by:

1. Finding and presenting pertinent news articles of the pro-life movement to the SFL Core team.

2. Providing the student body involvement and opportunity to send letters and contact with phone influential political figures.

3. Inviting political speakers to support and educate the student body.

Abortion Clinic Outreach

The mission of the Abortion Clinic Outreach Committee is to be a strong peaceful presence each week at the Allegheny Reproductive Health Center, praying and sidewalk counseling women coming to and from the center and dialoging with and requesting prayers from those who pass by the clinic. This committee also aims at engaging the Franciscan University community in joining Students for Life Club members in going to clinic each week, so as to maintain a consistent presence.

Equipped to Engage

The mission of Equipped to Engage is to train Franciscan University leaders to be well-equipped to discuss their pro-life beliefs and to use this training to actively engage in discussion with individuals so as to change hearts and minds on the issue of abortion. The group seeks to accomplish this by 1. Providing students with the tools and training to dialogue effectively on the issue of abortion and 2. Providing opportunities to put their training into practice. Equipped to Engage is meant to train for and facilitate dialogue as distinguished from debate. It is to be approached as a work of mercy as we instruct the ignorant, counsel the doubtful, and comfort the afflicted who struggle to understand the meaning of the dignity of the human person from conception.

March for Life

The mission of the March for Life Committee is to effectively organize the community of Franciscan University to witness to and passionately promote the culture of life through peaceful demonstrations at the annual March for Life in our nation’s capitol.
